As a photographer, I know Photoshop like the back of my hand, but was never formally taught Lightroom. I like John Evans books as he is very detailed, easy to understand, lots of diagrams and photos, well-explained, not a beginners book but not for the seriously advanced either.
For those like me who had some knowledge of the product, although you could learn the program from zero knowledge with this book, but if you know the program and are looking for some thing more advanced, This is an intermediate level text book. We would have appreciated knowing the server problem had been fixed. Will update rating and add comments as my wife and I as we progress with the lessons. The Pearson Peachpit site is something out of the nineties. It wastes my time gathering simple information to fix a server problem on their end.

It is not compendium of standalone, reference manual topics. In spite of the book’s shortcomings, I like his book. Unlike other authors who race to be the first to publish a book on a new release and missing major topic areas , the quality of Martin’s efforts is shown by his completeness for including new features or concepts or insights from the Adobe development staff.
All of these factors require post release time to get content correct. One final comment, the best way to learn, in my opinion, is to setup a throw-away LR catalog with junk pic images, and use it while reading Martin’s material.
It is detailed and very clearly written. His books’ companion websites have articles, sample images, video tutorials and updates from Martin so we can stay up-to-date when new versions of the software appear without having to buy his latest books.
Not only is Martin a top photographer but he is also an expert in Lightroom and Photoshop and a clear and concise writer whose books are a pleasure to read and own – you’ll want to read them more than once and use them as a reference. Ps gets reved all the time, so books are always out of date. Still and all, paper is often more convenient than googling for a youtube video.
So this is great to have around for an initial intro to the millions of features and then as an easy access refresher. Still trying to completely understand what CC brings – in straight forward language.
A very informative book for users of Lightroom. Whether experienced or novice with the software, the book explains not only what you need to do to achieve a well processed photo, but why and what can happen if done incorrectly or not at all.

Compared to other guides out there this is definitely the most comprehensive one and this provides you with the all the tools for which to later develop your editing style on. This is in contrast to others like Scott Kelby whose aim is to provide you with quick tips and tricks to get a certain result.
A lot of these ‘tips’ can easily be found online but what I wanted was a book which showed me all the little functions of Lightroom which I have not bothered to learn how to use and incorporate these into my workflow. In that respect, this book has certainly done it’s job! A well written and comprehensive book covering all aspects of Lightroom 6 and CC in great detail. Well illustrated and clearly described by Martin Evening, a close collaborator with Adobe for 15 years.
None of the other books on this product come close to the detail and insight this offers. I think this could could be very accurately described as the definitive manual on Lightroom. Detailed, informative and, above all else, readable. Go at your own pace and, in some ways, better than on line tutorials. If you blink, you’ve missed a key point in a chain of commands.
If you are into editing lightroom, this is the book to buy! I already have the Martin Evening book on Photoshop which is the reason for buying this. Thoroughly recommend as reference book.
